Mazda’s Amazing August
07-SEPT-2007
Mazda Australia has stayed ahead of game
recording its best ever August with 6,074 retails, an
increase of 21.2 per cent over the same month last year
and 1040 over its closest full-line import
rival.
August VFACTS figures confirmed that Mazda is
the country’s top selling vehicle importer, a leadership
position bolstered by a stunning eight consecutive record
months.
Sitting fourth in the sales race, year-to-date
Mazda has sold 51,642 vehicles and maintains a strong
market share of 7.4 per cent. This is an increase of 0.74
per cent on the same time last year.
Mazda’s diesel commercial utility, BT-50, was
the company’s stand out model last month, notching its
third consecutive best ever month (1047 sales). Sales of
the BT-50 accounted for 6.0 per cent of the light
commercial segment year-to-date, an increase of 1.1 per
cent on the same time last year.
Mazda3 was another top performer, topping
Mazda’s sales charts with 2,759 retails. Last month
Mazda3 was the country’s fourth most popular car
surpassed only by local manufacturers.
Year-to-date Mazda3 sales hold a 15.5 per cent stake in the sub
$40,000 passenger segment, equating to an additional 2666 sales
achieved at the same time last year.
This sales success can in part be attributed to
the choice Mazda3, sedan or hatch, offers customers. The
Mazda3 range has four engines, four transmissions and
five grades spanning $20,990 to $43,690.
Mazda3 sales combined with strong performances
across the company’s passenger range helped Mazda achieve
an 8.9 per cent share in the passenger car segment,
year-to-date. This is a sales increase of 6.3 per cent,
or 2241 cars, over the same time last year.
The escalating popularity of Mazda’s stylish
crossover SUV, the CX-7, combined with sales of the
Tribute, upped Mazda’s share in the competitive Compact
SUV segment to 11 per cent, from 3.1 as at August last
year. The CX-7 was the company’s third highest-selling
vehicle last month with 648 retails.
Mazda Australia’s managing director Doug Dickson
said: “This is an exciting time for Mazda in Australia.
Not only are we currently posting record sales, but our
second generation of Zoom-Zoom cars is about to emerge,
starting with the safer, lighter and cuter new Mazda2 on
September 13.
“We are confident these exciting additions will
make Mazda’s Stylish, Insightful and Spirited product
range even more appealing to the private
buyer.
“Having achieved eight consecutive record sales
months, we are well on track to retail between 73,000 and
75,000 vehicles by year’s end.”
