RECORD MONTH FOR MAZDA
05-FEBRUARY-2007
Record retail sales of 6627 vehicles last month
has given Mazda Australia its best ever market share of
8.6 per cent according to VFACTS sales figures released
today.
Mazda’s benchmark January sales were up 23.1 per
cent on the same month last year when the company had 7.7
per cent market share and 8.4 per cent above its previous
best month of 6111 sales in February 2005.
Mazda Australia retains its place as the
country’s top-selling, full-line importer, a position it
has held for the past two years. Overall Mazda finished
in fourth place on the sales table.
The company’s passenger share was even more
impressive with record sales of the Mazda3 sedan and
hatch of 3347 cars helping it achieve a passenger car
share for the month of 10.5 per cent and third place in
the passenger car sales race.
The Mazda3 took 17.6 per cent of the sub $40,000
small car segment with its sales jumping 27.3 per cent
over January last year.
Other strong performers for Mazda included the
Mazda6 with 1107 (21 per cent of the sub $60,000 medium
market) while the Mazda2 with 577 sales had its best ever
January.
The MX-5 with 119 sales was the top-selling
sports car under $80,000, achieving 15.2 per cent
share.
Mazda’s new commercial utility, the BT-50,
helped the company to 719 Light Commercial sales, enough
for 6.2 per cent market share. Last year Mazda had 4.8
per cent of that market.
The new CX-7 crossover got off to an impressive
sales start retailing 540 vehicles and lifting Mazda’s
total SUV sales to 734. This improved its share of the
total SUV market from 1.9 per cent in January 2006 to 5.1
per cent this year.
Doug Dickson, managing director of Mazda
Australia, said: "January is a month when private rather
than fleet buyers dominate and our record sales results
demonstrate that Mazda’s Stylish, Insightful and Spirited
vehicles are very much in demand in Australia.
"This result is a great way to start 2007 and
with the help of one of the best dealer networks in the
country we plan to build on this success throughout the
year".
