Get Ready For a Ride

Posted by admin under Hornsby Mazda Sydney, Mazda Australia, Mazda Car Review, Mazda News, Mazda Safety

The Mazda MX-5 is the realization of Mazda’s philosophy of “Zoom-Zoom.”  All of Mazda’s vehicles are fun to drive and they all possess the great handling and acceleration typical of a roadster, but the MX-5 is the pinnacle.  This roadster, available in both a soft top convertible or a retractable hard-top coupe, is a car that’s meant to be driven and designed to put a smile on your face.

What Makes it so Special?

You’re probably thinking, “So what, another roadster.  What’s the big deal?”  Well, the big deal is that this is not just another roadster, this is a Mazda roadster.  This is a roadster from a company that painstakingly inspects every detail and rigorously tests every possible configuration to make sure that their vehicles are produced with the utmost quality.  Every company says that about their cars, but Mazda proves it.  Get behind the wheel of the MX-5 and you’ll see just how apparent that proof is.

Beneath the Bonnet
Let’s start with the engine.  The MZR 2.0 litre 4-cylinder engine is a marvel of modern engineering.  With most performance type engines, you’ll find either very strong acceleration in the lower rev ranges, or a very high available top speed that takes forever to reach.  The MZR engine is designed to give you the best of both worlds, strong performance throughout the entire rev range.  That may not seem so incredible in words, but if you’re driving at cruising speeds on the highway and you need a quick boost of power to avoid an obstruction, you’ll be thankful that you’re driving the MX-5.

Taking the Turns

When driving a roadster, power isn’t everything.  Handling is also very important.  After all, roads tend to twist and turn, and its nice to have a vehicle that can twist and turn along with them.  Mazda’s answer to this is an elegant combination of features.  First of all, they incorporated a reinforced frame that is more resilient to the stretching and bending metal experiences under a hard turn.  This means that all the control is firmly your hands and you won’t experience any of the unresponsive steering common in lesser roadsters.  Also, Mazda has added their Dynamic Stability Control system to the MX-5.  This system constantly monitors all four wheels and either applies or decreases power to maintain desirable traction.  While this system has found its greatest use in combatting slippery conditions, it also works great when you push the MX-5 through a demanding turn.

The Mazda MX-5 is yet another example of exemplary engineering, and whether you choose the easily hand-operated soft top or the fully automatic retractable hard top model, its going to be a great ride.

Mazda 2: The Height of Compact Cars

Posted by admin under Hornsby Mazda Sydney, Mazda Australia, Mazda Awards, Mazda Car Review, Mazda New South Wales, Mazda News

With constantly rising fuel costs, many drivers are turning towards more compact cars as a way to alleviate these costs.  And those drivers need look no further than the Mazda2.  Available in both 3-door and 5-door configurations, the Mazda2 was built for comfort and efficiency.  And when Mazda aims for efficiency, they aim for the top.  The Mazda2 conforms to the strict Euro IV emission standard.

A Smooth Ride
When you take a seat in most compact cars, you realize exactly how many car manufacturers design compacts.  Basically, they take out everything that makes driving a car comfortable and enjoyable in an effort to make the car lighter, and therefore more fuel efficient.  Mazda decided to take a different approach.  By applying a philosophy of efficiency to every component of the vehicle, and not just to the design overall, Mazda was able to significantly lighten the car to just above 1000 kg, yet still maintain the ride quality and comfort that they are known for.

The Comforts You Want
You won’t find an expensive leather interior in the Mazda2, this is a compact after all, but you will find ergonomically designed seats that allow for a lot of comfort in a small space.  And as for bringing along cargo, the rear tailgate is light (another nod to efficiency) and easy to operate with the push of a single button.  And, who doesn’t appreciate good music while driving?  With a wide range of stereo options available, all including an AUX jack for MP3 players, you’ll have some great sounds to accompany you on your ride.  Mazda went through great lengths to ensure a comfortable ride while still maintaining all of the perks of a compact vehicle, and they have succeeded admirably with the Mazda2.

Recognized the World Over
Its not only drivers of the Mazda2 who appreciate its quality, experts worldwide have embraced this incredible compact.  In March of 2008 it was announced at the New York International Auto Show that the Mazda2 won the World Car of the Year Award.  Edging out 38 other vehicles, the Mazda2 was recognized by a panel of 47 international automotive journalists as the best car of 2008.  Not only did the Mazda2 win the World Car of the Year Award, it was also ranked in the top three design finalists.

Experts from across the world have recognized the Mazda2 as a car that not only looks better than other cars on the road, but is also the better choice to buy.

Mazda: A Different Kind of Company

Posted by admin under Hornsby Mazda Sydney, Mazda Australia, Mazda New South Wales, Mazda News, Mazda Sponsorships

When most people hear about a charity organization being sponsored by a large corporation, they usually take the news with a grain of salt.  After all, a charitable organization just seems like an easy and convenient way to assume the appearance that a company cares for a community.  Mazda approaches its relationship with the community in the same manner that they approach designing cars; with a full commitment to quality.

In 1960, Mazda commenced operations in Australia.  Their philosophy at the time was “the enrichment of life and the achievement of excellence.”  One need only look at one of their cars today to see that they have succeeded admirably as far as their products are concerned, and one need only look at the Mazda Foundation to see that they have on the human side as well.

The Mazda Foundation
The Mazda Foundation was formally established in 1990.  While Mazda had engaged in charitable activities for decades prior to the Foundation’s inception, it was after its formation that the greatest good started to be done.  One of the things that makes the Mazda Foundation unique is that it is not simply a charitable arm of the Mazda Corporation.  Rather, it is a fully independent public charitable trust whose goal is to provide assistance to a wide range of people in need.

The Mazda Foundation’s Goals
The Mazda Foundation is always open to new ideas about how to better serve the community.  There are several aims, though, that have been the mainstays of the Mazda Foundation’s charitable activities from the beginning.

Those aims include:
• Assistance for young people through education and job training
• Assistance for advanced education
• Assistance for developmental technology, designed to improve internal competition in Australia
• Assistance towards environmental protection efforts
• Assistance towards timely community needs

Changing With the Times
The Mazda Foundation recognizes that times change and that new social issues that desperately need attention are not always provided for in the guiding charter of a charitable group.  In order to stay modern, the Mazda Foundation makes a point of periodically redefining priority areas of interest.  Currently, projects of the Foundation are focused on health risks for young people that are caused by obesity.  By addressing such issues in the present, the Mazda Foundation not only helps the communites of today, but also makes the world a better place for the communities of tomorrow.

BT-50 A Truck For All Occasions

Posted by admin under Hornsby Mazda Sydney, Mazda Australia, Mazda Car Review, Mazda New South Wales, Mazda News

Drivers looking for a versatile truck at home both on the road and off can end their search because the Mazda BT-50 is here.

Available in a variety of cab and chassis configurations, the BT-50 can meet the needs of truck drivers who need to transport a lot of equipment and up to five people comfortably.  Most trucks equipped with back seats are known for discomfort and low accessibility, but the BT-50’s Freestyle door system allows convenient and comfortable access to the rear seats.

Ready For Work
Don’t be fooled though, this truck is built for work as well as comfort.  Available four wheel drive means that you won’t get bogged down when off road or when bad weather looms.  And that four wheel drive is powered by a 3.0 litre diesel engine on most models, a powerhouse finely tuned for power along with optimal fuel efficiency.  If you have work that needs doing, then the BT-50 is the truck for you, and it doesn’t matter if that work is on road or off.

And Ready For Play
There’s plenty of beauty to be found in this beast as well.  The body is designed with strong lines that produce a sophisticated modern look that is equally at home in the city or in the brush.  Most of the time, when you need a truck for carrying cargo or towing a load, you’re not all that concerned about the way the truck looks.  But Mazda went ahead and designed a truck that looks as great as it works.

But Wait, There’s More
Mazda is not a company known for designing cars that only accomplish a few things.  Mazda is a company that designs versatile vehicles that can perform a number of different functions.

So, with that in mind, here’s a quick breakdown of the BT-50’s other great features:
• Available Four-Wheel Drive
• Enough room for five adults
• 3,000 kg braked load towing capacity for a manual transmission 3.0 litre model
• The 2.5 litre model still delivers an impressive 2,250 kg braked load towing capacity
• Fuel efficiency up to 8.3 litre consumption per 100 km
• Rugged, cross-braced frame that makes for great strength and a smooth ride
• Tough suspension that can easily handle heavy loads
• And much more.

Take one for a drive and you’ll see how great the BT-50 is!

Mazda is Reaching Peak Efficiency

Posted by admin under Hornsby Mazda Sydney, Mazda Australia, Mazda Concepts, Mazda Environmental, Mazda New South Wales, Mazda News

The engineers at Mazda know a lot about making ecologically friendly products.  All of Mazda’s vehicle are known for their fuel efficiency and economy of design.  It is no surprise, then, that Mazda’s commitment to high standards begins long before a car hits the road.

A New Generation Of Bioplastics

The processes by which plastics are created usually produce a lot of excess byproducts.  These byproducts include harmful chemicals, carbon dioxide, and other potentially hazardous materials.  In addition to these byproducts, most plastics are petroleum-derived, so the ecological footprint of plastic products has generally been fairly high.  The creation of bioplastics has alleviated many of these problems and they have become widely used.  Odds are, many of the consumer electronics in your house are made of bioplastics to some extent.

Bioplastics and Automobiles
Bioplastics have been a great boon to consumer electronics, but until recently, their use in automobile manufacturing has been limited.  The reason for this is that most conventional bioplastics are not strong enough to resist impacts and lack the required heat resistance required for automotive applications.

Mazda doesn’t give up easy, though.  By collaborating with members of industry, government, and academia, Mazda has developed that first bioplastic in the world capable of withstanding the rigorous conditions required for car production.  Not only are these bioplastics strong, but they also have a high quality service making them perfect for use in interior trim pieces as well exterior pieces.

And There’s More
The process by which bioplastics are made require the use of the starches and sugars found in plants.  That means that in order to produce bioplastics, Mazda actually maintains vast amounts of plants to be used in the process.  All the carbon that these plants absorb through photosynthesis completely offsets the carbon needed to create the bioplastics.  Mazda has always been known as a great friend to drivers all across the world.  Their efforts detailed here also prove that Mazda is a great friend to the environment as well.  When you sit behind the wheel of a Mazda vehicle, you can be assured that from the car’s initial conception all the way to the dealership car lot, that vehicle is an example of just what can happen when a car company cares not only about the dollar signs associated with their business, but also about the world those cars will drive in.

Mazda2 Wins 2008 World Car of the Year

Posted by admin under Hornsby Mazda Sydney, Mazda Australia, Mazda Awards, Mazda Car Review, Mazda News

The Mazda2 has been voted the 2008 World Car of the Year (WCOTY), beating out 38 other vehicles for the coveted title.  The award was announced on March 20, 2008 at the New York International Auto Show.

In addition to the Mazda2’s winning of the overall award, it was also named one of the top three design finalists.  The panel that names design finalists consists of four of the world’s leading designers who are tasked with choosing vehicle’s whose design exhibits great innovation and style.

The WCOTY Awards is an organization comprised of automotive journalists from around the world.  Every year a panel of forty-seven journalists is formed.  These panelists vote by secret ballot based on their experiences with each candidate vehicle.  The members of the panel come from all around the world and they represent a total of 24 countries from North America, South America, Asia, Europe, and other parts of the world.

The Mazda2 first went on sale in 2003 in Europe.  The initial design was a welcome addition to the compact market, but it was after a redesign in 2007 that the Mazda2 really took off.  The first generation model was renowned for its convenient size, great storage space, and all around functionality.  The second generation kept all those great aspects, greatly increased its already exciting driving dynamics, and vastly reduced its ecological footprint.  The benefits of modern technologies, along with a 100 kilogram weight reduction, increased the Mazda2’s fuel economy, making it highly desirable in both city and country settings.

The Mazda2’s winning of the 2008 World Car of the Year can be seen as a reflection of the future of automobiles.  Other finalists for the top award included various sporty coupes, larger sedans, and sports cars.  However, these other vehicles could not live up to the qualifications of the award, which state that “the assessment process consider the needs and wants of consumers the world over.”

The Mazda2 has also won a number of other Car of the Year awards in countries such as Austria, Belgium, Denmark, Greece, New Zealand, and the RJC Car of the Year Award in Japan.  By producing a vehicle that not only possesses dynamic styling and great engineering, but also includes an incredible array of standard conveniences, Mazda has ensured that the Mazda2 will become a modern classic.

Visit Hornsby Mazda today to see why the Mazda2 has been name World Car of the Year 2008.

Mazda Cutting Fuel Costs

Posted by admin under Hornsby Mazda Sydney, Mazda Concepts, Mazda Environmental, Mazda News, Mazda Safety

In late June of 2008, Mazda announced a series of steps it would take over the coming years in an attempt to cut fuel consumption by thirty percent.

While some recent talk of automotive technology has focused on the adoption of either hybrid or hydrogen powered vehicles as a means of reducing dependence on fossil fuels, Mazda’s multifaceted plan promises far more timely results.  Mazda also has a proven track record in increasing efficiency.  From 2001 to 2008, the average fuel consumption of Mazda vehicles in Japanese markets increased by thirty percent.

Shedding That Extra Weight
One of the main mechanisms by which Mazda will achieve its goal is the reduction of vehicle weight.  The theory behind this measure is simple.  If a vehicle weighs less, then the engine will have an easier time pushing it along, therefore consuming less fuel.

Mazda will not just be excising components however.  Through the development of lightweight, new generation platforms and materials, Mazda aims to reduce the weight of each vehicle model by 100 kilograms or more.  Also crucial to this process is the development of materials that not only reduce weight, but also maintain Mazda’s strict safety standards.

Renewing the Powertrain
By the year 2015, Mazda will have renewed almost all of its powertrain lineup.  No radical redesigns are expected, but rather an extensive optimization will take place on each system.  By applying the latest technologies to the powertrains, Mazda can make its already efficient engines to the next level.

Of particular note in this plan is the introduction of the Smart Idle Stop System. By rethinking the process of an engine idling, Mazda was able to develop this revolutionary system that accounts for an eight percent increase in fuel economy all on its own.  The system will be first introduced in 2009.

Aiming for Carbon Neutral
In seeking to combat emissions, Mazda is taking the battle not just to the roads, but also to the manufacturing plants.  It is a common oversight, particularly with automobiles, to measure an items impact on the environment solely by its form and function.  However, the processes by which that item is manufactured also has an impact.

To make their automobiles truly efficient from step one to finished product, Mazda has begun to utilize a new Three Layer Wet Paint System, a process to be more widespread by 2009.  The first generation of this process, introduced in 2005, led to a 45 percent reduction of VOC emissions and a 15 percent reduction of CO2 emissions.  The next generation promises to improve on those numbers.

The Future is Now
Along with the measures already listed, Mazda is also seeking further efficiency through the development of hybrid and hydrogen powered vehicles.  While these new cars won’t be widespread in the near future, Mazda is committed to making them not only a reality, but a cost-efficient and ecologically-friendly reality.

Who is Mazda Australia?

Posted by admin under Hornsby Mazda Sydney, Mazda Australia, Mazda Car Review, Mazda New South Wales, Mazda News

Mazda Australia Pty Ltd is a subsidiary of the Mazda Motor Corporation of Hiroshima, Japan.  The company has been importing quality Japanese motor vehicles to Australia for over 40 years.  From its head office in Notting Hill, Victoria, Mazda Australia holds the title of the top-selling full-line importer, with its vehicles accounting for 7.4 percent of the Australian market.

Mazda: The Car of the People

Posted by admin under Hornsby Mazda Sydney, Mazda Australia, Mazda Awards, Mazda Car Review, Mazda News, Mazda Safety

The people have spoken and once again they have chosen Mazda models as their vehicles of choice.  For the fifth consecutive year, the Mazda6 won the Medium Car of the year, proving itself to be a perennial favourite in Australia.

Also continuing a strong run as a car of the people, the Mazda3 won the Small Car award for the fourth year in a row.  The contest, held by the Carsales Network People’s Choice Awards, as administered by Carsales.com Ltd, is a unique competition as it is the only popular poll in the country to determine the cars that appeal to buyers the most.

A Strong History
The Mazda6 was almost immediately recognised as an incredible vehicle.  Having only entered the market six years ago, it has been the Medium Car of choice for the past half decade.  Buyers are attracted to its elegant styling, impressive comfort, and great performance.  One need only sit behind the wheel to understand why the entire country has chosen it as the top in its class.

Mazda is the top-selling import brand in Australia because they provide customers with superior quality at an attractive price.  When a company provides vehicles of the calibre that Mazda does, the buying public pays attention.

A Compact With No Equal
The Mazda3 is a compact known for its incredible blend of economy, performance, and style.  It is no wonder that for the fourth year in a row, it has proven to be the car of choice for the country.

While most compacts sacrifice the amenities that make driving enjoyable in order to conform to a smaller size and weight, the Mazda3 can claim the designation of compact because of its unsurpassed engineering, and certainly not for any compromises.

Voice of the People
Many car awards are chosen by journalists or other industry figures, but the Carsales Network People’s Choice Awards are a truly chosen by customers.  The voting is conducted through Carsales.com Ltd’s websites, including carsales.com.au, carpoint.com.au, and several other affiliates.  Every time a Carsales Network user places an enquiry on a new car, that enquiry counts as a vote towards the awards.

By harnessing the extensive reach of Australia’s number one automotive classified company, the Carsales Network People’s Choice Awards accurately represent the desires of the car-buying public, and those desires are for the Mazda6 and the Mazda3.

Call now to arrange a test drive of the People’s Choice today.
